Your customers crave the best for their citrus category and we deliver citrus year round including oranges, grapefruit, lemons, and ‘zippered fruit.’ Whether your customers want sweet, tart, unique or just their ‘old delicious favorite’ Grant J. Hunt has the program for you.
Navel Oranges
Navel oranges are distinctive because of their button formation (Naval looking) opposite the stem end. The Grant J. Hunt naval season runs from November through May, your peak periods for promotions are January - March. Naval oranges are arguably the world"s most popular eating orange and they also peel and segment quite easily.
Cara Cara Oranges
Certainly you have seen Cara Cara oranges advertised in your favorite produce department. Cara Cara is a specific variety of navel and are available during the winter months as well. The most noticeable difference of course is the dark pink or red color of the fruit's interior.
Valencia Oranges
A favorite with juicers. Valencia's are often considered "summer oranges" because their peak volume is May-July out of California. †However, delicious and juicy fresh Valencias are actually available from February-October when you add our Texas and Florida program to the mix. Valencias are one of several "juice" varieties we represent in this time frame. Valencias tend to have a thinner skin than navels and you will find a few seeds
Blood Oranges
Blood oranges are also known as "Moro" oranges and are available from December through May. They receive their name from the beautiful, bright red flesh you see when you slice one open. Bloods are small to medium sized with a thin skin and few or no seeds. You'll enjoy the intense orange flavor and they are still unique enough to be a conversation piece..
Tangerines/Tangelos/Mandarins
A fast growing category, tangerines come in multiple varieties and are primarily available from November through April. When compared to oranges, tangerines are typically smaller in size and have a looser peel, they are a favorite for children and great for lunches.
‘Zippered Fruit’
One of the hottest segments in the produce industry, zippered fruit (ie. Clementines) are perfect for today's on-the-go families. Toss a few into a lunch box, bring them to the soccer games. They are small, easy-to-peel and most importantly delicious. Did you know that zippered fruit really started growing in popularity in the U.S. after a major freeze to our domestic citrus crop. The European market has enjoyed this fruit for years but it is still a relative newcomer in the U.S.
Grapefruit - White/Pink/Ruby/Dark Red
A lot of us remember our parents sitting at the breakfast table with a spoonful of sugar enjoying their grapefruit. Times have changed and grapefruit are now enjoyed year round and are used in entrees, desserts and more. Some of the varieties are even eaten as you'd eat an orange. Grant J. Hunt carries an assortment of the most popular pink/red varieties as well as the white or golden varieties. We can help you craft a great health message for this sweet and tangy fruit.
Lemons
Bright yellow, tart and tangy lemons are used for everything from ‘adult beverages’ to your favorite fish on the bar-b-q. No home should ever be caught without a lemon or two in the kitchen. The Grant J. Hunt Company can supply you lemons year round from California and Arizona - don’t get caught empty handed!
